Tue, 15 Nov 2016 00:00:00 +0000 Silica Dust is killing the construction work force! Must Read! What is Silica? Crystalline Silica, also referred to as silica dust is a toxin that is produced when cutting or grinding concrete, brick, stone, as well as other raw stone based products.  The dust which is given off contains the harmful crystalline silica particles.  The main issue is that this dangerous dust is inhaled into the lungs, where it may cause a deadly disease known as silicosis.  Silicosis is deadly and incurable. For years professionals working in many different trades  within the construction industry have succumbed to silicosis.  The most important thing to remember is that like many other deadly diseases, silicosis is  preventable. The Truth Every day throughout the world, thousands of people are exposed to the harmful silica dust.  OSHA estimates that more than 2.3 million workers in the United States alone are exposed to silica dust.  90% of the exposed individuals work in the construction industry. The Different Stages of Silicosis Silicosis is broken down into three stages which are chronic or classic silicosis, accelerated silicosis, and acute silicosis. Chronic or classic silicosis is the most common of the three.  It occurs after 15-20 years of exposure to low or moderate amounts of crystalline silica.  A chest X-Ray is required to determine if lung damage has occurred.  Symptoms associated with chronic or classic silicosis are shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, and possible repertory failure. Accelerated silicosis occurs after 5 to 10 years of exposure to high amounts of crystalline silica.  The symptoms associated with accelerated silicosis are severe shortness of breath, weight loss, and weakness. Acute silicosis occurs after as little as a few months of exposure to extremely high amounts of crystalline silica.  The symptoms associated with acute silicosis include severe shortness of breath which can be disabling, weakness, weight loss, and even death. The Facts The facts of the matter are that it has been known for years that silicosis is a real issue, and that people can and have died from it.  So why haven’t there been changes to the regulations, and why haven’t employers attempted to protect their employees from the silica dust? In the industry there have been two ways to protect employees from the silica dust.  There is the standard hose and vacuum style of preventing the inhalation of harmful silica dust, and there is the wet cutting method.  The wet cutting method utilizes water when cutting or grinding products which contain silica dust.  The water encapsulates the crystalline silica particles and is safer to the employees and to the public due to the lowered risk of inhalation of silica dust.         Slurry There is a byproduct which is produced when contractors "wet cut".  This byproduct is called concrete slurry and is formed when water meets the silica dust and forms a goopy watery mess called slurry. Many people do not prefer to "wet cut" because they claim it is a mess to dispose of the slurry water that is created.  Wet cutting can potentially save lives from silicosis.  For years construction professionals have struggled with properly disposing of slurry waste water without harming the environment.  Recent OSHA regulations In the recent months, OSHA has increased regulations regarding Silica dust and preventing silicosis.  The recent regulation change must be followed in the construction industry by mid-2017.  Follow the link here to see information on the entire regulation change. Gelmaxx has the solution! For years Gelmaxx slurry solutions has been fiercely campaigning to prevent silicosis.  Gelmaxx slurry products were designed to help the contractor during all parts of the cleanup phase. The unique formula uses organic materials making it safe for the environment and operators, while maintain EPA compliance. Our AQUAmaxx separator reduces the amount of concrete slurry while producing reusable water for jobsite machinery. Our ECO-QUICKgel solidifier absorbs concrete slurry into a dry material that can be disposed immediately in any standard trash container.  The Change Silicosis is preventable!  Together we can save lives!  The next step is to take action, together lets #stopsilicosis forever. Tue, 04 Nov 2014 23:43:56 +0000 Resurfacing Concrete Pools Without The Hassle of Slurry Wastewater As the temperature rises during summer, so does the desire for a nice swim, perhaps in your own pool. Whether you’re building one in your backyard or fixing up an old one, there are many different avenues to consider. While repairing your concrete pool, the issue of wastewater becomes unavoidable. From resurfacing the plaster to fixing a crack, learning how to deal with the slurry head-on helps simplify the cleanup. Resurfacing The Plaster Resurfacing the pool plaster can be an immense challenge with all the chipping and the grinding, but it is necessary for the perfect finish. Some contractors prefer to grind the plaster without any water, which allows the dust to flow freely into the air. Although they may be wearing masks or using dust vacuums, it is a not a safeguard that is completely effective. The dust can seep through small openings, which is dangerous to inhale for extended periods of time. Instead, why not grind the plaster with water? That effectively keeps the dust contained while drastically reducing the risk of airborne debris. But what about the slurry wastewater left behind? ECO-QUICKgel slurry solidifier is the simple solution. It’s a liquid waste absorbent that will solidify the slurry in minutes. By drawing lines of ECO-QUICKgel around the work area, it traps the wastewater from traveling anywhere.  How does this method help besides reduce dust? Using water to grind the plaster helps prolong the life of the grinding blade while providing a smoother, deeper cut with less work. Instead of grinding off the plaster, some choose to sand blast the surface. But even so, a pressured water blast is necessary to clear any dust or particles left behind, which still produces wastewater. Repainting The Surface When the pool is still in decent shape, a more economical option is painting instead of resurfacing it. To remove the paint, using a water blaster is the easiest method. However, with water comes the mess. Easily take care of the slurry wastewater with ECO-QUICKgel like the process above. Draw lines of ECO-QUICKgel, let it absorb, and haul it to the trash can. Crack Repair An older pool may have many cracks that need to be repaired. To fix the crack, a grinder or saw is needed to deepen and extend the length of the crack on both ends before sealing it. Some may decide to cut dry, but the water keeps the dust contained while helping extend the life of the blades. ECO-QUICKgel will certainly take care of the slurry left behind. Creating or repairing a pool may appear to be a lot of work, but by staying prepared with the right tools makes the workload seem that much lighter. Tue, 02 Sep 2014 19:55:52 +0000 Grinding And Polishing Concrete Countertops As more and more homeowners are looking to renovate their homes, they want to upgrade to luxurious concrete countertops. Whether done professionally or at home, the process remains the same: create the mold, cast the concrete, and polish the countertop. In order to give concrete that smooth finish, contractors grind the surface with water. However, as the water combines with the concrete particles, it creates slurry wastewater that is illegal to just dump down the drain or leave on the ground. By using our ECO-QUICKgel slurry solidifier, it quickly turns the slurry into a dry material that is safe to dispose directly into any standard trash can. There are multiple methods to apply ECO-QUICKgel while grinding your concrete countertop. Collect all the slurry water into a container and pour & mix ECO-QUICKgel until completely solidified. Pour some ECO-QUICKgel into the trough that the wastewater will flow into to start the solidification process. Once the job is complete, add more ECO-QUICKgel if necessary. Draw a line of ECO-QUICKgel around the grinding area to create a water barrier. As you grind, the wastewater will stay within the confines of the border you have created. Clean up is as easy as sweeping up and tossing it in the trash. Although some may prefer granite, concrete countertops have really been on the rise. With concrete, it is much easier to mold the perfect countertop by designing where drain boards, sinks, etc. will be placed. By mixing pigments and aggregates into the concrete, it can mimic the beauty of granite. As concrete countertops continue to take center stage, concrete grinding is necessary to reveal that lustrous shine. Taking that necessary step to handle the slurry wastewater is not complicated with Gelmaxx. Handle your slurry like a pro. [1] Tue, 15 Jul 2014 20:24:34 +0000 World Day for Safety and Health at Work Did you know that a worker dies from a work-related accident or disease every 15 seconds? With statistics like these (provided by the United Nations), it is important to bring awareness to safety and health at work. April 28, 2014 marks the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. It first began in 2003 by the International Labour Organization (ILO) to inform the public about this important issue. With strong public awareness, we will be able to create a safety and health culture that can help reduce work-related deaths and injuries. Within the concrete industry, an important health risk has been brought to light by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Silica dust has been the culprit in thousands of preventable deaths for decades. When silica dust is allowed to enter into the lungs, it can cause silicosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and kidney disease. Unfortunately, the negative effects of silica dust are not immediate, but slowly emerge later when the damage cannot be repaired. Click HERE to learn more about OSHA's regulations. Silica dust is created when contractors are grinding or cutting concrete without any water. With the current safety measures in place, there are still countless lives lost. However, OSHA has proposed new safety and health standards that Gelmaxx is in support of. Long before OSHA suggested for contractors to use a wet method, Gelmaxx has been advocating the positive results from using water. Not only does it eliminate silica dust, but it helps prolong the life of the equipment as well. Some are turned off because of the mess that water can create, but with Gelmaxx’s AQUAmaxx separator and ECO-QUICKgel solidifier, concrete slurry can be easily taken care of and disposed directly into the trash can. We are each responsible for helping stop deaths and injuries on the job, but without the proper knowledge, we are rendered useless. On World Day of Safety and Health at Work, we each have an obligation to ourselves and each other to bring awareness to the harmful risks we face at work and to participate in implementing preventative measures. We invite you to join us on this significant day! Mon, 28 Apr 2014 21:03:33 +0000 World of Concrete 2014 It’s that time again. Tue, 05 Nov 2013 18:01:08 +0000 Handling OSHA's Proposed Silica Dust Regulations with Water and Gelmaxx Many are aware of the harmful effects of concrete dust, aka crystalline silica, and make a conscious effort to protect themselves from overexposure. However, countless lives are still being impacted from the negative effects of silicosis, lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and kidney disease. On August 23, 2013, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) proposed new standards to toughen its regulation of silica dust exposure, like turning toward wet methods. Water effectively eliminates silica dust, and keeps workers safe. As the water combines with the concrete dust, it creates slurry that Gelmaxx helps dispose of safely in any standard trash can.    What Is Silica Dust? Crystalline silica is a slow acting agent that does not pose a problem until it is too late. Dry concrete grinding or cutting fills the air with harmful silica dust throughout the entire jobsite. Silicosis results from exposure to low concentrations of silica dust over a long period of time, which usually spans from ten or more years. This slow process lures contractors into a false sense of hope that their health is unaffected, but their lungs are slowly deteriorating. Lungs are naturally able to filter out regular dust and dirt, but silica dust is too small for the lungs’ filtering system to be effective.     What New Rules Are OSHA Proposing? Currently, the daily permissible exposure limit (PEL) is about 100 µg (micrograms)/M3 for most industries and 250 µg/M3 for construction. With OSHA’s new proposal, they would like to cut this limit in half to 50 µg/M3 throughout every industry. To help keep worker exposure at the new PEL, OSHA would require new work practices like: Engineering controls that include local exhaust ventilation, equipment hoods and enclosures, dust suppressants, spray booths, high efficient particulate air (HEPA) vacuums, and control rooms Respiratory protection requires the provision of respirators and establishing respirator programs Exposure assessment under a fixed schedule of semi-annual sampling or a performance-based schedule Medical surveillance requires an initial health screening and then triennial period screenings for workers exposed above the proposed PEL of 50 µg/M3 for 30 days or more per year Information and training is necessary for all employees in jobs where there is potential silica dust exposure Regulated areas and access control for employees that are, or reasonably expected to be, in excess of the PEL Find out more about these requirements at OSHA’s website.   OSHA's Public Hearing  On March 18, 2014 - April 4, 2014, there will be a public hearing on OSHA's proposed silica dust rules at the Department of Labor's Frances Perkins Building in Washington, D.C. Let your voice be heard. Those who file a timely written notice of intention to appear are able to testify and ask questions of agency officials and other witnesses during public hearings. More than 200 people filed notices of their intent to testify at the public hearing.  The purpose of the hearing is to provide information and clarification that complements the written comments that OSHA has received. The hearing will be presided over by an administrative law judge where participants can present their opinions and evidence on the subject of silica dust.  Check out the schedule of appearances before the court. We will provide more information about the hearings as they progress.    What Is the Best Solution? With all of these new standard practices, although practical and necessary, silica dust prevention will become costly on the employers and time consuming for the industry. Turning to a wet alternative is an extremely efficient and affordable direction to take. By using water to subdue the crystalline silica, it creates wet slurry that Gelmaxx helps dispose of responsibly. The two-part Gelmaxx system first separates the water from the concrete slurry with the AQUAmaxx separator. By separating the water, you are reducing your waste and producing clean water that you can reuse in your machines. To dispose of the leftover slurry, the ECO-QUICKgel solidifier absorbs the liquid and turns it into a dry material that is safe to dispose directly into any standard trash can. Feel confident because Gelmaxx is EPA compliant and eco-friendly. Currently, these standards are merely a proposal by OSHA, but it demonstrates the direction that the concrete industry is heading towards. Contractors will need to adopt a wet cutting or grinding method, and Gelmaxx will provide the ultimate concrete slurry solution. Mon, 28 Oct 2013 19:38:42 +0000 Insider's Look At ICPSC 2013 Polished Concrete in Atlanta, Georgia. What could be better than ICPSC 2013? For those that were unable to attend, let us give you an insider’s look of the entire trade show. From September 12-15, ICPSC was jam packed with exhibitor booths, concrete slab demonstrations, and seminars lead by industry leaders.        During the two exhibiting days, the show floor was packed with amazing vendors from around the US. To name a few, there was Ermator, Runyon Surface Prep and Rental Supply, Xtreme Polishing Systems, Concrete Polishing Solutions and many more. If you were a contractor that was on the fence about buying certain products, ICPSC was the perfect venue to get a hands-on experience and one-on-one interaction with a knowledgeable sales representative. Although the tradeshow was smaller in comparison to events like World of Concrete, all the major players in the industry made sure to be present. For any attendee, the $40 entrance fee is well worth the price to walk the show because of the quality of venders that were present.  The Gelmaxx booth had a constant stream of contractors and manufacturers that were intrigued by our demonstration. Many were still shocked by how fast the separation of the AQUAmaxx separator was and the high absorption rate of the ECO-QUICKgel solidifer. One of the highlights of the show is when we demonstrated how clean the separated slurry water from AQUAmaxx was. It is clean enough for fish to live in! Now if the fish approve, the water is certainly clean enough to reuse in your machines.                               ICSPC was certainly the place to get all the current news in concrete polishing. The seminars ranged from “Successful Business Strategies” and “Understanding Abrasives” to “Powering Your Worksite” and “Producing Architect Lunch & Learns”. Even Skip Edwards, the founder of Gelmaxx, gave a seminar. Skip teamed up with David Straud from Ermator to give an insightful presentation about Proper Waste Disposal and the Physics of Vacuums. Click HERE to view the PowerPoint slides that went along with their presentation. A video link will be provided in a few short weeks. With OSHA’s new law proposals about silica dust prevention, many contractors attended the seminar with a peaked interest. A change is coming to the concrete industry, and Gelmaxx be the solution you need. ICPSC 2013 was a colossal successful, and we cannot wait until next year’s event. Thu, 19 Sep 2013 22:53:57 +0000 Is It Legally Safe To Dispose Solidified Slurry In The Trash Can? In the construction industry, sometimes dealing with concrete slurry is unavoidable. Unfortunately, concrete slurry waste is prohibited from being dumped straight down the drain, due to its harmful nature. After using a slurry solidifier like Gelmaxx, is it legally safe for contractors to toss the resultant material straight in to the dumpster? Yes, it is completely legal and compliant with Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards. The material must pass one of the most important tests, the EPA Method 9095B Test. Within a five minute test period, nothing can pass through a paint filter, or the material is deemed to contain free liquids. If free liquids are present, then the material is unacceptable in landfills. The EPA states that free liquids can be placed in a landfill if all of it has been “solidified so that free-standing liquid is no longer observed or has been otherwise eliminated”[1]. Some landfills might question the disposal of the solidified slurry because of their unfamiliarity with the material; however, EPA documentation states that is perfectly acceptable for landfills once it is completely solidified. Furthermore, only certain slurry solidifying brands like Gelmaxx are acceptable for landfills because of the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP). This is a sample method for chemical analysis used to simulate leaching in a landfill. In other words, the TCLP determines whether the liquid that excretes from the solids will carry any environmentally harmful substances. Make sure to get a product that encapsulates the heavy metals and keeps the slurry from emulsifying and leeching into the landfill. However, please keep in mind that if the concrete slurry has harmful toxins before solidification, it will still be considered hazardous after solidification. Now is it legally safe for contractors to dispose solidified concrete slurry directly in the dumpster? Yes, because it abides by all the EPA standards for proper liquid waste disposal.      You can find this entire published article in Polishing Contractor magazine's August/September 2013 issue on page 17-18. Rather than allowing the concrete to harden, washing away concrete buildup daily is the easiest way to extend the life of the truck. Although routine washing may seem like a hassle, it is the most efficient method to keep the trucks clean. When the concrete is allowed to set inside the mixing drum, the only solution is chipping off the hardened concrete with a jackhammer. Or if chipping does not properly remove the concrete, some have resorted to small explosives. Chipping also poses many safety hazards: rolling drum, sharp mixing blades, falling concrete, and many more. You can read more about these safety hazards HERE. The main question is, why go through such difficult measures when all of that can be avoided. A routine wash keeps the truck and all its parts in pristine condition. The only downfall of washing cement trucks and mixing drums daily is the large amount of water involved. Using a high-pressure power washer to clean the ready mix truck can use up to 5-12 gallons of water per minute, depending on the intensity of the power wash. On the other hand, cleaning the mixing drum takes at least 200 gallons of water. With this excess amount of water, the ability to recycle and reuse the same water is tremendous. AQUAmaxx provides such a solution, since it has the ability to separate water from concrete particles. Essentially, AQUAmaxx acts as a slurry flocculant. Normally, the cleaning process will turn the water into concrete slurry. However, with the addition of AQUAmaxx, the water has the same cleaning power as before without turning into concrete slurry. Once the water from the mixing drum is poured into the washout, the AQUAmaxx will start to separate the slurry in the washout as well. Thus, you are getting more out of the slurry separator than what is being used in the drum. Once the system is in place, the positive effects of AQUAmaxx become apparent. The AQUAmaxx will separate the water in the washout quicker than allowing the slurry to naturally fall. And by allowing the slurry water to sit for a few days, it will turn the slurry waste into a dry cake like you see in the example on the right. The dry slurry is perfectly acceptable to dispose in any standard trashcan. The more drums you clean with AQUAmaxx, eventually the less water and product you will have to use. As more drums are mixed in the washout, the better the separation will be.  Since the washout water already has some of the slurry flocclant in it, you will need less product when using it to clean the mixing drum. Cleaning the ready-mix trucks daily will certainly prolong the life and performance of the machine. Just make sure to use AQUAmaxx slurry separator to help. The process maximizes the use of water and AQUAmaxx while reducing waste and resources. This will cut costs and ensure productivity. Wed, 10 Jul 2013 21:51:42 +0000 What Is The Proper Method For Concrete Slurry Disposal? In the construction industry, sometimes dealing with concrete slurry is unavoidable. What is concrete slurry exactly? It is the mixture of water and concrete solids that result from concrete grinding, cutting, or coring. Unfortunately, concrete slurry waste is prohibited from being dumped straight down the drain, due to its harmful nature. Thus, what is the proper method for slurry disposal?   Why Should We Dispose Slurry? Before we learn how to dispose slurry, we need to discuss why. Without understanding why concrete slurry waste is unsafe, the act of disposing it will seem mundane and meaningless. Every state has different rules and regulations when it comes to proper slurry disposal.  However, the devastating effects of leaving concrete slurry exposed and neglected by contractors are universal. First, when the concrete slurry is allowed to run down pipes, they erode the pipes quicker while creating a water blockage or a flood. Second, if the concrete slurry runs into the storm drain, it will negatively affect the ocean because they are directly connected. Concrete slurry can be highly alkaline with larger pH levels. Thus, if it were combined with the ocean’s delicate biosphere, it can cause serious harm to the aquatic life. Even if there was no storm drain present and the concrete slurry was left to dry, the wind will spread the slurry particles over grass, lakes, streams, and ocean. It can even mix into the very air we breathe. Why does it matter if the slurry particles end up in the grass? If the grass gets watered or it rains, the water runoff will still contain harmful slurry waste, which ends up in the storm drain. Third, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) dictates that we use proper slurry disposal methods, unless we would like to face up to $10,000 in fines. However, many contractors are willing to forgo the risk of fines unless there is an easy and efficient solution to slurry disposal.   Easy Slurry Disposal Methods Gelmaxx has created the perfect slurry disposal solution. Our products are extremely easy to use, cost effective, and environmentally friendly. They do not require any equipment and the resultant material is safe to throw directly into any standard waste container. In order to reduce waste and reclaim water back from the concrete slurry, AQUAmaxx is a sufficient answer. Our slurry separator uses similar technology to slurry flocculation that allows the concrete solids to drop to the bottom while the clean water rises to the top. After the slurry separation is performed, the leftover waste can be taken care of by ECO-QUICKgel. ECO-QUICKgel is a slurry solidifier that acts as an absorbent when mixed with the concrete slurry. The slurry solidifier complies with EPA regulations and is landfill ready. The EPA states that free liquids that have “been mixed with sorbent or solidified so that free-standing liquid is no longer observed” are acceptable in a landfill. ( What’s perfect about ECO-QUICKgel is how versatile the clean method can be. You can broadcast the slurry solidifier directly on the ground that contains the slurry, and use a broom or stiff squeegee to sweep up the remains. If you prefer a quicker method than sweeping, slurry vacuums are a great alternative. In the videos below, we demonstrate how you can vacuum the solidified concrete slurry straight into the Dustless machine. Or watch how to use the Ermator vacuum to recycle water and solidify the slurry with ease.   If you have already collected the slurry in drums or pits, both AQUAmaxx and ECO-QUICKgel can help with your slurry disposal. Add AQUAmaxx to reduce the amount of waste and just decant the water. Then add ECO-QUICKgel to solidify the remaining concrete slurry. With both products, it is best to mix it in the concrete slurry to create a faster reaction and speed up processing time. There are abundant reasons why proper slurry disposal is important, which range from environmental risks to enormous EPA fines. Fortunately, with all these reason why we should properly dispose slurry, there are countless ways how to dispose slurry with Gelmaxx. All that is left is finding the right method for your job. Penick & Sons Improves San Diego Airport with Gelmaxx T.B. Penick & Sons, Inc. is one of San Diego’s largest general construction companies. However, they go beyond just construction. They have recently undergone work for San Diego International Airport Terminal 2. The design team is in charge of creating a spectacle that will captivate and excite the passengers, visitors, and staff. If you have never heard of T.B. Penick & Sons, they are an award-winning firm that has been involved in projects like Sea World, MGM Mirage City Centre in Las Vegas, Disneyland, Disney Hong Kong and Coney Island Boardwalk in New York to just name a few. T. B. Penick’s bid includes over 100,000 square feet of decorative concrete flatwork where they will be using decorative concrete and epoxy terrazzo composed of marble, granite or glass aggregates. In order to create an amazing finish, the team will need to polish the terrazzo to give it that great shine. However, how will T.B. Penick handle all the slurry left behind? That’s where they have turned to Gelmaxx to complete the job. T.B. Penick has put their trust in Gelmaxx Slurry Solutions to dispose of their concrete slurry waste in a safe and efficient manner. Gelmaxx has been able to reduce the amount of waste on the jobsite and decrease the amount of labor that go into slurry clean up. With a job of this magnitude, T.B. Penick has slurry drums lined up, filled to the brim. With the assistance of AQUAmaxx separator, we are able to reduce the slurry waste in half. However, the best part is when the workers are able reuse the clean water back in their machines. While using the high pressured washer, they are safely recycling the same water they applied to the ground back into the water tank. Both Gelmaxx and T.B. Penick are San Diego based companies. We are proud to support a fellow San Diego company that helps improve and elevate our city. If you would like to learn more about the work being done on the San Diego Airport, click HERE. Thu, 28 Mar 2013 21:14:09 +0000 Gelmaxx Helps Makeover Charlotte Rescue Mission At this year's Concrete Decor Show, they wanted to do more than put on a regular show. These concrete conventions gather industry leaders together to show off their new products and techniques. However, rather than creating pieces that will be tossed in the landfill, everyone at the Concrete Décor show decided to give back to the community. Charlotte Rescue Mission has such a positive impact on the city because they reach out to the homeless and those fighting addiction. Founded in 1938, the rescue mission has been meaning to fix the stairs and redo the concrete floors in the recreation area, but lack of funds to do so. Thus, steps in the Concrete Décor Show.   The two organizations have teamed up to help revitalize the men’s program known as Rebound. Gelmaxx and the other concrete exhibitors will help create freshly stained floors, restore the gym with a polished basketball court, and numerous other projects. Since this is a convention that focuses on decorative concrete, you can expect their work to be more than just ordinary. They are taking out all the stops to provide an amazing place for the Charlotte Rescue Mission. Click HERE to see more photos from the project.  The Concrete Décor Show officially kicks off tomorrow, so most of the work at the mission must be completed by today. In order to help speed up the process, that’s where Gelmaxx comes in. Our two step approach with the AQUAmaxx separator and ECO-QUICKgel solidifier has really kept the projects clean and time efficient. Rather than wasting time fetching water, AQUAmaxx separates the clean water to reuse in your machines. And instead of using extra manpower to help polish the floors, their services can be used in more important areas since the ECO-QUICKgel makes it easier to complete. Make sure to watch the video above. You can see Skip and Jason representing Gelmaxx throughout the segment. There is quite a bit of work going into the Charlotte Rescue Mission, about $250,000 amount of work actually. That figure ranges from the products and supplies included in each project to the labor involved. The rescue mission has such a positive impact on the community that we hope our concrete contributions make as big of an impact on their Rebound program. Our company was created 2 years ago with a mission of protecting the environment from waste water pollution. Our ECO-QUICKgel solidifier is able to absorb any water based liquid up to 400 times its weight. With that being said, our products can help the fight against storm drain pollution. You may be thinking, “How can Gelmaxx help?” Simple. Use our ECO-QUICKgel when washing your car. All the toxins and chemicals from your soap get swept away in the storm drains. However, if you draw a line or two of ECO-QUICKgel at the bottom of your driveway, it will catch the runoff and stop it from entering the storm drains. That is just one. If you’re trying to get rid of your household waste products like liquid reside from paints, thinners, solvents, glues, and cleaning fluids, don’t dispose of them in the gutter or storm drains. As long as the product is water based and non-toxic, Gelmaxx will be able to safely solidify the liquid to throw away in the trash. In addition, lawns have fertilizer and pesticides that can be carried into the drains when excessively watered. But if you place some ECO-QUICKgel around the perimeter of the lawn where water can runoff, the solidifier will stop the water from overflowing into the gutter or storm drain. Why do the extra work? Water from storm drains flow straight into the ocean. Since storm drains are not connected to the sewer system, the water that flows into storm drains are not treated and filtered for pollutants. Thus, the pollutants we allow to enter the storm drains are ending up in the oceans we swim in. There are countless ways that Gelmaxx can help you prevent storm drain pollution. Don’t be afraid to be creative. We can be the change that needs to happen. Fri, 08 Mar 2013 00:23:23 +0000 Concrete Decor Show 2013 Gelmaxx will be at the Concrete Decor Show 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina on March 11-15, 2013! If you are attending the show, make sure to stop by the Gelmaxx booth #1016. You've heard about our products. You've seen our videos. But now is the time to see it in person! Wed, 27 Feb 2013 20:17:17 +0000 Gelmaxx Takes Over WOC in Las Vegas Being at the World of Concrete 2013 was an amazing experience for Gelmaxx and our entire team. One of the best parts was being able to showcase our products to the public and really being able to demonstrate what Gelmaxx can do. At the World of Concrete, we were literally able to meet people from all over the world ranging from Australia, South Korea, Columbia, and more. By meeting these world travelers, we were able to discover that there is such a need for a product like ours. Every country has their own rules and regulations for construction, but have one major commonality: they have no idea how to dispose of their slurry waste. This is where Gelmaxx steps in. Our ECO-QUICKgel and AQUAmaxx are meant to save you time and money, but one of Gelmaxx’s strongest benefits is its eco-friendly properties. No matter what part of the world, our natural resources are depleting and the amount of waste is constantly growing. However with Gelmaxx products, you can reduce the amount of slurry waste you are disposing while recycling the clean water.         Gelmaxx exhibited from Tuesday through Friday, giving demonstration after demonstration. As people walked by our booth, they were captivated by both tanks that held separated and solidified concrete slurry. Spectators could not help but want to touch the solidified slurry; to feel the texture, to find out exactly what they were seeing. Most people were shocked to feel how dry, solid, and gel-like the resultant was.          There were even some contractors that had already used ECO-QUICKgel on their jobsites. For example, Timothy from Northern California used our products while operating their Bobcat machines. They described how easy it was to just pour the solidifier on their liquid waste and dispose of the solids. Attendees were also pleased to learn that if you draw a line or circle of ECO-QUICKgel around the work area while sawing, drilling, or coring, it will create a water barrier that stops the slurry water from spreading all over the worksite. The ECO-QUICKgel really makes a messy job easy and manageable. Although some of the attendees had already known about our ECO-QUICKgel, they were pleasantly surprised to learn about AQUAmaxx. And when they found out that it only takes about 2-3 quarts of AQUAmaxx to separate an entire 55 gallon drum, they were floored. They were able to view Gelmaxx as a viable product that they could use on their own worksites. Gelmaxx also teamed up with Outpak during the World of Concrete and demonstrated how their portable washouts easily compliment the Gelmaxx cleanup system. Rather than dealing with large 55 gallon drums, the whole product can be disposed of in the worksite dumpster. Now there’s no mess and no hassle. The World of Concrete 2013 was an undeniable success. Gelmaxx is ready to change the face of concrete. Wed, 20 Feb 2013 22:59:24 +0000 World of Concrete 2013 Gelmaxx is loading our trucks and heading off to Las Vegas! We're going to be part of this year's World of Concrete. This will be Gelmaxx's first year showcasing our products in our own booth! We are beyond excited to show everyone our new products, and how they can make slurry cleanup easy for anyone. What we'll be demonstrating is how to use AQUAmaxx to separate your slurry solids from the water. Through this separation, you are able to cut down on waste and have reuseable water for your jobsite machines. No longer do you need to run back and forth getting water when you have a fresh supply waiting to go. We'll also be demonstrating how our ECO-QUICKgel can solidify the slurry waste into a product that is easily disposable in any standard trashcan because it complies with the EPA 9095B Paint Filter test. There are so many simple methods to apply ECO-QUICKgel to get rid of the slurry. For example, after vacuuming the slurry, you just need to mix in a 2lb bag of ECO-QUICKgel to your 55 gallon drum. Or you can lightly coat the concrete slurry on the ground, and just use a vacuum, like from Dustless Technology, to pick it up. That way it saves you a step, and you don't have to mix the slurry and ECO-QUICKgel. If you want to see a demonstration of how that works, just check out our video HERE. But that's not all we'll be showing off. We have amazing new machines that are custom built to perfection. Our concrete slurry pump is guaranteed to be the talk of the entire show because of the way it separates the slurry particles from the water. It will save you time and money because the more times you reuse the water with AQUAmaxx, it allows the solution to separate more quickly and efficently. Thus, when using this AQUAmaxx water on your jobsite machinery, it's already primed to separate the concrete slurry and the water while its being applied on the floor! Think about how much waste you've reduced. If you plan on heading to the World of Concrete, you need to make sure to stop by our booth because of the amazing giveaways we have ready to hand out. Make sure to get your lanyard, chapstick, and Gelmaxx t-shirts before they all run out! However, that's not even the best prize. Gelmaxx is giving away not one, not two, but THREE PRIVATE FREE fishing trips in beautiful San Diego. All you need to do it come by our booth and drop your business card in our fish bowl. You have three chances to win since there will be one winner each day from February 5-7. This is certainly a trip that you want to win! Gelmaxx also has the privilege at this year's show to be the exclusive company to handle all concrete slurry waste at the convention. So be sure to check out our logo on each waste bin!  Oh, and did we mention that we are nominated for the Most Innovative Product at the World of Concrete?
